The project for the men’s clothing brand Benson & Thomas, located at Punta Carretas Shopping, posed the challenge of achieving large display surfaces in a small store.
The first decision was to suspend the deposit and to define a complex section which progressively intercalates double height spaces with very compressed spaces. This idea is complemented by the prolongation of the floor, -made with polished pine wood-, into a big staircase which physically and optically extends the depth of the store. The big staircase allows product exhibition and by means of a bridge gives access to the deposit. Also, it accommodates underneath two fitting rooms which entrance is through a cut exacerbated by its black color. On each of the lateral walls a continuous grid of 2x2cm steel tubes occupies the space and adapts to the different products to be exhibited.
The window shop, understood as a free-standing showcase, is designed as a piece of furniture that in an ambiguous way defines at the same time that blurs the boundaries between the interior and the exterior of the shop. The closure is defined with a black door, fixed to the wall by concealed Simon’s hinges, which allows it to stay hidden in the same plane of the lateral access wall when open.
In the front wall of the deposit which faces the double height in the access, specially designed video mapping is projected activating the surface and making it vibrate.
